Home > Press > New Renaissance Institute Sells Graphene/Nanotube Nanoelectronics Patent Assets to Undisclosed Purchaser
Abstract:
New Renaissance Institute (NRI) announces the August 2011 sale of several molecular electronics patent assets to an undisclosed purchaser for undisclosed terms. These patent assets address many essential areas regarding the future of commercial grapheme ribbon, carbon nanotube, and semiconducting polymer nanoelectronics fabrication.
These patent assets relate to creating complex electronic circuits (including heretofore unconsidered differential and operation amplifier elements) on a single grapheme ribbon, carbon nanotube, or semiconducting polymer strip or region therein. Of special interest is the application of these to the electrical interfacing of the plethora of nanoscale sensors and actuators that have been devised but for which there is no interface electronics solution. The patent assets include special circuit design techniques to create highly functional circuits comprised of serial chains of nanotransistors supplemented with minimal additional electrical interconnections. The ribbon, nanotube, or strip can be laid across a photolithographed or self-assembled interconnected electrode array with low placement tolerance, allowing a single placement operation to fabricate a circuit comprising dozen, hundreds, or thousands of transistors. The patent assets also address associated nanoscale optical interconnection of the nanoelectronics circuits, associated CAD systems, hierarchical circuit design libraries, and applicability to printed electronics.
Also in August 2011, NRI sold other patent assets covering two advanced signal processing techniques it has developed. Financial terms and the buyer were undisclosed.
