Abstract:
NanoInk's® NanoFabrication Systems Division is
pleased to announce that Northwestern University's NIFTI Center purchased an NLP
2000 System to expand the multi-user facility's range of nanolithography instruments.
Specifically, the NLP 2000 will be used in patterning and controlled deposition of
biomaterials, nanoparticles, and functional molecular and soft architecture. Such
exquisitely controlled patterning and deposition of soft and hybrid surface architecture
will be utilized for advancing many phenomena and proof-of-concept device designs for
a wide range of applications including biotechnology, energy harvesting, conversion and
storage. NanoInk's NLP 2000 System is a desktop nanofabrication system that allows
researchers to rapidly design and create custom engineered and functionalized surfaces
on the micro and nanoscale, using Dip Pen Nanolithography® (DPN®) to transfer
minute amounts of materials over a large, environmentally controlled work area.

"We are pleased to continue our relationship with NanoInk through the purchase
of its NLP 2000," said Gajendra Shekhawat, a research associate professor at the
International Institute for Nanotechnology at Northwestern University. "This instrument
fills an important niche in the patterning of biomaterials, such as DNA, proteins and
hybrid nano-bio structures at subcellular resolution. It will not only enhance existing
users' needs but will attract entirely new groups of users to our shared facility, ranging
from materials science to nano- and bioengineering. We find NanoInk's NLP 2000
System to be highly versatile, yet very user friendly for our diverse user base who seek a
total solution to their soft and hybrid materials patterning for critical research needs."

Jiaxing Huang, assistant professor of materials science and engineering at Northwestern
University added, "We are interested in using the NLP 2000 for patterning solutions
to achieve controlled growth and deposition of nanoparticles, including graphene and
related emerging materials. I also look forward to using this system for generating
chemical patterns on surfaces."

University selected our NLP 2000 System. It's an ideal instrument for a multi-user
facility because users can generate custom designed patterns in less than an hour
after only a half a day of training," said Tom Warwick, NanoInk's general manager

Shekhawat, Philip Messersmith, among others."

The NLP 2000 will be used by the Northwestern University Atomic and Nanoscale
Characterization Experimental (NUANCE) center and its subsidiary the Nanoscale
Integrated Fabrication, Testing, and Instrumentation (NIFTI) facility. NIFTI facilitates
research, collaboration, education, and outreach in emerging nanotechnologies such
as, soft and hybrid nanolithography, biochemical nanosensors, nano-biotechnology
including genetic engineering, soft nanostructures and molecular self-assembly. More
