Strem Chemicals Signs Agreement with Catalyx Nanotech for Stacked Graphene Nano Fibers

Newburyport, MA | Posted on July 15th, 2009

Stacked Graphene Platelet Nanofibers are grown via a patented process that decomposes carbon containing gases in the presence of metal catalyst particles. The structure of the stacked grapheme platelet nano fibers consists of graphene sheets oriented perpendicular to the growth axis like a stack of cards, spaced 0.34nm apart. The fibers have a mean width of 40-50nm and are 100-10,000nm long!

"These carbon-based nanofibers offer a host of potential applications and expands our nanomaterials offering for our customers" said Ephraim S. Honig, Strem's Chief Operating Officer.

"Our nanofibers could be used as a carbon-based catalyst support for fuel cells and other chemical processes, for the separation of volatile organic carbon pollutants from water and in supercapacitors and batteries" said Juzer Jangbarwala, Catalyx Nanotech Founder and Chairman. "We have also recently demonstrated the production of these nanofibers from renewable resources".

Strem's nanomaterials product offering now includes nanoparticles of many transition metals, precious metals as well as metal oxides, mixed-metal oxides and magnetic fluids. These are provided in a number of different shapes and sizes. Nanocatalysts are also available.
