Abstract:
Iranian researchers synthesized nanostructured thin films that have application in the production of electrical and optical devices, including solar cells, gas sensors and LEDs.
The simultaneous presence of high transparency and electrical conductivity is among the most important advantages of these thin films, which increases their performance efficiency. The research was carried out at laboratorial scale.
Cadmium oxide thin films have various applications in different industries such as solar cells, flat LEDs, gas sensors, transparent electrodes, optical transistors and OLEDs. However, the achievement of good transparency and high conductivity at the same time is a serious concern in these devices. Therefore, the aim of this research was to create both properties at the same time in cadmium oxide nanostructured films.
In this research, samples of cadmium oxide nanostructured thin films and cadmium oxide doped with fluorine were produced on glass substrates, and physical properties of the layers were investigated. It was shown that the creation of the both goals – high transparency and low resistance – is definitely possible.
Doping of semi-conductive layers with other elements sometimes results in undesirable properties that decrease their performance in some cases. However, the application of appropriate elements is very effective. That is why fluorine has been used in this research. Fluorine has a positive effect on optical and electrical properties of cadmium oxide, and it decreases the resistance while increases conductivity.
Results of the research have been published in The European Physical Journal Plus, vol. 130, 2015, pp. 254-265.
