From Left to Right: NanoProfessor Interns Troy Blume and Da In Lee with Dr. John Ireland, Director of the NanoProfessor Program and NanoInk's NLP 2000 Desktop Nanofabrication System. |
Abstract:
NanoProfessor™, a division of NanoInk, Inc.® focused on nanotechnology education, announced today that it has selected two local college students for a ten-week summer internship. In completing the internship, the students will receive hands-on training to learn the fundamentals for building custom-engineered nanoscale structures, while working with state-of-the-art equipment including NanoInk's NLP 2000 Desktop NanoFabrication System, an atomic force microscope (AFM), an advanced fluorescence microscope, and various chemical and biological materials used today within current and emerging nanotechnology applications.
"NanoProfessor is pleased to welcome Da In Lee, a biology student at Oakton Community College in Des Plaines, Ill., and Troy Blume, who is working towards an associate's degree in applied science at Harper College in Palatine, Ill., as NanoProfessor Lab Technician Interns this summer," said Dean Hart, chief commercial officer of NanoInk. "Troy and Da In will gain valuable insight into the nanotechnology industry and will help students around the world by working with the NanoProfessor team to develop new cutting-edge, hands-on experiments that will add to the already robust NanoProfessor curriculum."
During the internship, activities will include, but are not limited to:
Working as lab assistants in perfecting existing labs and developing new labs for the NanoProfessor Nanoscience Education Program
Assisting in developing student and instructor nanotechnology educational resources
Participating in NanoProfessor team meetings regarding the strategic and commercial activities pertaining to the NanoProfessor Nanoscience Education Program
"This internship is an exciting opportunity to not only gain real-world experience by working with nanotechnology experts in a professional environment, but to also offer a student's perspective to help shape the curriculum that future nanotechnology students will use," said Da In Lee of Glenview, Ill.
Troy Blume, a Lincolnshire, Ill. native, added, "Nanotechnology is an emerging field with a vast amount of career opportunities, which is why I'm looking forward to interning with NanoProfessor this summer and working with their cutting-edge instrumentation. This unique hands-on training will help me gain invaluable experience that will prepare me to become part of the growing nanotechnology workforce."
The NanoProfessor Nanoscience Education Program aims to expand hands-on nanotechnology education from the cleanrooms of research-based universities to undergraduate classrooms, and is especially well-suited to nanotechnology educational initiatives at the community college, technical institute, and undergraduate university level. The program alternates between classroom lectures and hands-on lab work and includes a curriculum authored by leading nanotechnology experts, covering the topics of Nanotechnology Basics, NanoPhysics, NanoChemistry, NanoBiology and Environmental, Health, & Safety perspectives on nanotechnology.
