Event showcases technology and science from across the UK in one location to an international audience

See the best of British technology at Technology World and UK NanoForum

UK | Posted on November 22nd, 2010

Global technology and science event Technology World in partnership with UK NanoForum (London ExCeL, December 7-8) is enabling international delegates to meet leading organisations and academia from all parts of the UK in one venue.

The UK is the most attractive country for investment in Europe, as highlighted by the European Attractiveness Survey 2010, and provides a springboard to other parts of the continent. International technology brands with bases in the UK, which are also attending the event, include Sony, Samsung and Ericsson.

Hosted by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), more than 2,000 industry professionals from 750 companies are expected to attend Technology World in partnership with UK NanoForum, including top organisations such as BAE Systems, Procter & Gamble, BP, Vodafone, Microsoft and Philips Research. The event will bring science and technology specialists from all parts of the UK together in London, where delegates can arrange one-to-one meetings to learn more about their products and expertise.

The UKTI anticipates that some 3,000 business-to-business meetings will take place at the venue - equating to about 175 meetings every hour. Neil Abbott, account manager in electronics & communications at UKTI, said: "International delegates looking to trade or invest in the UK don't need to travel across the country to meet different organisations - they will be able to liaise with hundreds of companies and academic institutions simply by attending this two-day event in London.

"There are many significant benefits to trading or investing in the UK - and with the highest proportion of eHQs, ICT-related jobs and technology universities, it has a lot to offer the global market place. In addition, four of the world's top six universities are based here, demonstrating the strength of its expertise in research and development."

Technology World in partnership with UK NanoForum will also offer international visitors free and impartial advice about setting up a business in the UK and identifying R&D opportunities, introductions to professional advisers, possible business partners and professional services organisations, plus practical help and advice about location visits, finding business partners and accessing financial incentives.

The event comprises three themes - energy & environment, digital media and nanotechnology - and features exhibits such as the Bloodhound Project, Geneco's 'Bio-Bug' car and large research facilities such as CERN. More than 75% of last year's exhibitors are expected to win new business as a direct result of attending Technology World or UK NanoForum.

"The UK's capital stock of foreign direct investment has reached US$1.0 trillion, second only to the USA, according to the Word Investment Report 2009," adds Abbott. "To protect that position and remain at the forefront of technological developments, it is imperative that we continue to foster international relationships. It will be global meeting places such as this year's Technology World in partnership with UK NanoForum that will continue to boost this collaboration with international companies."

The event also includes an exhibition, Business Innovation Awards, a conference featuring more than 60 speakers and a workshop programme. It has grown substantially since last year - when Technology World '09 and UK NanoForum '09 were separate events.
