Queensland seeks big role in aviation biofuel development
Abstract:
"In May the Queensland Government provided $2 million in Smart Futures Funding to the University of Queensland's Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN) to research the production of aviation biofuels from a variety of feedstocks.
"The AIBN Queensland Sustainable Aviation Fuel Initiative, led by Professor Lars Nielsen, is now investigating the production of aviation biofuels sourced from sugarcane juice and bagasse, oilseed trees such as Pongamia, and algae.
"US interest in the project is strong, with Boeing contributing $450,000 and leading US renewable products company Amyris Biotechnologies contributing over $1 million to support the project."
