Loyola University Professor Richard Holz Joins NanoProfessor NanoScience Education Advisory Board

SKOKIE, IL | Posted on August 31st, 2009

NanoProfessor™, a division of NanoInk, Inc.® focused on nanotechnology education, is pleased to announce that Richard Holz, professor and chair of the Chemistry Department at Loyola University Chicago, has joined the NanoProfessor NanoScience Education Advisory Board. With more than 20 years of research and teaching experience, Professor Holz will also develop NanoChemistry chapters of the NanoProfessor Program curriculum. The NanoProfessor Program aims to advance the field of nanoscience at the high school and university level, and address the need for a skilled workforce of nanotechnologists within various fields of science.

"Nanotechnology extends into all areas of science, including chemistry, physics and biology," said Professor Richard Holz. "It is more important than ever to provide students with a nanoscience education in order to prepare them for future careers in the emerging field of nanotechnology. I am pleased to be a part of the NanoProfessor NanoScience Education Advisory Board, and look forward to contributing to the program's curriculum, which will ultimately help train the next generation of nanotechnologists."

Professor Holz currently serves as chair of the Chemistry Department at Loyola University Chicago, where his research interests include mechanistic enzymology, biophysical chemistry and biomolecular nanotechnology. In addition to receiving numerous industry awards and honors, Professor Holz was named College of Science Researcher of the Year, while working for Utah State University in 2001. Professor Holz was also a National Institute of Health post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Minnesota from 1989 - 1992 and received his Ph.D. in chemistry from Pennsylvania State University in 1989.

"As we look to further the skill set and education of tomorrow's nanotechnologists, Professor Holz's experience and wealth of knowledge will prove invaluable to the NanoProfessor NanoScience Education Advisory Board," said Dean Hart, executive vice president for NanoInk. "With contributions from Professor Holz and other industry leaders, the NanoProfessor Program provides a thorough, hands-on nanoscience education, by combining curriculum that is grounded in fundamental science and engineering concepts at the nanoscale level with state-of-the-art technology provided by NanoInk's easy-to-use NLP 2000 Desktop Nanofabrication system."

Dakota County Technical College in Rosemount, Minn., will be the first college to implement the NanoProfessor Program for its 2009 - 2010 academic year. For more information on the NanoProfessor Program, please call (847) 679-NANO (6266).
