Abstract:
For the first time this September Oakland Community College will offer courses in its new associate of applied science degree in the cutting-edge field of nanotechnology at the Auburn Hills Campus. Nanotechnology is the study of the control of matter on a molecular and atomic level with wide-ranging applications in medicine, electronics and energy production.
The new Nanotechnology in Material Sciences Program is made possible by a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor. It includes classes in the material sciences, chemistry, the physical sciences, nanoscience and nanotechnology applications.
Prospective students should have an interest in science, technology, engineering and math, and must be able to carry a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester.
Career opportunities for graduates include such fields as:

Telephone and online registration for OCC's fall semester continues through September 2. Final walk-in registration takes place at all five campuses August 31, September 1 and 2. Fall classes begin Thursday, September 3.
OCC's Auburn Hills Campus is located at 2900 Featherstone Road, one mile east of the Pontiac Silverdome.

About Oakland Community College
The Oakland Community College District was established by the electorate of Oakland County, Michigan, on June 8, 1964. The area served encompasses almost 900 square miles and has an assessed valuation of over $25 billion.
The county contains 28 public school districts with 45 public high schools. In addition, there are 37 non-public high schools in the district.
The College opened in September 1965, with a record community college initial enrollment of 3,860 students on two campuses - Highland Lakes, a renovated hospital in Union Lake, and Auburn Hills, a former Army Nike missile site in Auburn Heights.
In September 1967, the award-winning Orchard Ridge Campus opened. First housed in leased facilities in Oak Park, the Southeast Campus System expanded through the purchase and remodeling of buildings at a second site in Royal Oak.
In 1980, the Oak Park facilities were replaced by a new campus in Southfield.
The Royal Oak buildings were replaced by a new campus complex which opened in the fall of 1982.
