Electrochemical capacitors developed for water desalination

Abstract:
The latest advances in electrochemical capacitors have led to research of new water desalination devices.

Currently, the best available technology is reverse osmosis, although this is highly energy-consuming and expensive.

However, a joint research project by Spanish company Proingesa and science institution Imdea is to design a low-cost capacitive deionisation device based on nanomaterials that were developed for the last generation of electrochemical capacitors.
