''Vescom + Silver'' Fights Staph, E. coli and More with Revolutionary Antimicrobial-Treated Wallcoverings

Chicago, IL | Posted on June 9th, 2008

Vescom, an international leader in high-quality textiles and wallcoverings, will debut its new line of wallcoverings treated with SILVADURTM antimicrobial at the NeoCon World's Trade Fair in Chicago, Ill. on June 9. SILVADUR, a breakthrough technology developed by Rohm and Haas, uses a patented controlled release system to deliver extended antimicrobial protection to the wallcoverings. The Vescom + Silver wallcoverings provide a natural, non-toxic and environmentally-friendly way to destroy bacteria odors, mold and mildew.

Vescom + Silver was created in partnership with Rohm and Haas, a global pioneer in innovative technologies, and uses silver as its primary antimicrobial ingredient. Silver, one of the world's oldest-known natural antimicrobials, is effective against a broad range of pathogens and is commonly used in the treatment of wounds and burns.

"Vescom + Silver is a testament to the focus that we put on technology and design, and we are excited to be expanding our collection of durable products to include antimicrobial finishes," said Joe Berasi, president of Vescom America.

The Vescom + Silver line of wallcoverings are wash-durable, provide odor control and create a barrier against microorganisms, which is ideal for high-touch areas and highly-trafficked environments that require constant sanitary conditions such as hotels, hospitals, schools, offices, restaurants and airports.

SILVADUR can be added to all of Vescom's extensive line of wallcoverings, and it is applied as a surface treatment, enabling its controlled-release, microbe-destroying properties to work on the wall's surface, which often harbor bacteria and odors due to less frequent cleaning. The self-replenishing properties of the SILVADUR coating continuously work to provide antimicrobial protection throughout the life of the wallcovering. The wallcoverings require no additional treatments or special cleaning routines.

SILVADUR is effective at controlling and eradicating a number of organisms including bacteria, such as E. coli and Staph. aureus, and fungi that cause athletes foot.
