Abstract:
Electric Car Living of Rocklin to Roll Out ZAP Sedan and Truck on May 30th & 31st
As gas prices hit new record highs, an entrepreneurial mother has bought a golf cart business (Golf Carts of Lincoln) and transformed it into an electric car dealership in Rocklin, California called Electric Car Living. On May 30th and 31st she is introducing a new affordable electric car design called the ZAP (OTCBB: ZAAP) Xebra. The event is Friday from 3pm to 7pm and Saturday from 11am to 3pm.
Miki DeZorzi, a mother of two young children (Tatum, age 6 and Wesley, age 3), has opened an electric car dealership in Rocklin in part because the City of Rocklin has made a resolution to design its roads to be more EV-friendly. In 2006, neighboring city Lincoln started a similar initiative. DeZorzi also believes in the lesson she is teaching her children of how to be responsible for the Earth. "This is a business I do for and with my kids," said DeZorzi.
The Xebra is a unique electric vehicle design from 13-year industry veteran ZAP. Rather than try to reinvent a gasoline car to be electric, ZAP designed the Xebra as a simple solution that can be created today to expand the growing niche market for electric vehicles used in city-speed applications. Studies show that for short in-town trips, commutes, errands and deliveries, electric vehicles can be more efficient than gasoline cars.
ZAP says its Xebra electric city-car and truck cost from 1-3 cents per mile while gasoline costs 15-20 cents per mile. ZAP's research into used gasoline cars shows that average late model used cars average between 15-22 MPG. On a pure energy consumption basis, the ZAP Xebra can get about 146 MPG.
The California Air Resources Board estimates you can save 750 gallons of gas or $2,500 a year by driving an electric vehicle 30 miles a day. Electric vehicles reduce automotive emissions by 90 percent over gasoline vehicles, even including the emissions from power plants. They also offer quieter operation, less maintenance, tune-ups and insurance costs.
"I think this is the wave of the future," said Miki DeZorzi. "With all the talk in Rocklin about making it easier and safer for the neighborhood electric cars and with what Lincoln has done already, it's exciting to have something new like the Xebra that can take electric vehicles out of the neighborhood and into the city."
Because of its unique design, ZAP calls the Xebra a city-car which falls under a motorcycle classification and was designed for a top-speed of up to 40 MPH. This is different from the electric vehicles for which Rocklin passed a resolution. Neighborhood Electric Vehicles (NEVs) are a category of Low-Speed Vehicle limited to 25 MPH. Rocklin's NEV initiative has created a 10-foot lane to separate NEVs from conventional car traffic, which the City believes will make it safer and more efficient for the operation of NEVs. DeZorzi says the Xebra will be allowed to drive with conventional traffic.
Electric Car Living also will be showcasing ZAP's fully electric city scooter called the Zapino and ZAP's personal transporter called the Zappy3. Electric Car Living will also be distributing through ZAP a way to convert today's serial hybrids to parallel hybrids or plug in hybrids that can get a tested fuel economy of 120 MPG. Electric Car Living (www.electriccarliving.com) is holding a VIP Event and Xebra demonstration, followed by a reception, on Friday, May 30, 2008 at 11:30am. The ZAP truck will deliver a ceremonial tree to symbolize two of the best ways to fight global warming at the Antelope Creek Elementary School with student participation. The dealership is located at 6839 Five Star Blvd., Suite F, Rocklin, California 95677. To schedule a test drive, call (916) 645-1250.
