Business offers cleaner, healthier dog products
Abstract:
Chris Onthank recalls his first experience with fabrics utilizing the nanotechnology of Schoeller Technologies.
Onthank, a Wilton resident who owns Dog Gone Smart dog training and boarding in Norwalk, tried out the technology for his bedding at the kennel.
"I thought, 'Wow, this stuff is amazing,'" Onthank said. "Not only did it stay clean and things didn't stick to it, but it also killed bacteria and fungus so the beds were healthier for the dogs."
Onthank was so impressed, in fact, that he now has the exclusive worldwide license to use the technology for pet products and developed the company Nano Pet Products. Combining Schoeller's trademarked NanoSphere and ActiveSilver finishes, which are based on nanotechnology, the products are resistant to liquids, oils, stains, and odors, and kill fungus, mildew, mold and bacteria on contact, thus reducing the risk of viral infections, according to Onthank. The fabric is washable.
