Nanotechnology Conference To Cover Top Six Beneficial Nano Uses

Menlo Park, CA | June 28, 2005

Foresight Nanotech Institute, the original organization in the nanotechnology field, announces the program and conference chairs for the Advancing Beneficial Nanotechnology: Focusing on the Cutting Edge conference, to be held October 22-27, 2005 at the San Francisco Airport Marriott.

"Foresight Nanotech Institute has been the pioneer in producing nanotechnology events for over a decade," said Christine Peterson, founder and vice president of public policy at Foresight Nanotech Institute. "Our conferences have evolved along with the advancements in nanotechnology. This year's meeting offers a sweeping view of nanotechnology from the Vision, to current Applications & Policies, to Research."

Advancing Beneficial Nanotechnology: Focusing on the Cutting Edge is organized into three stand-alone, complimentary sessions - Vision, Applications & Policy, and Research. Chaired by recognized leaders in nanotechnology and organized around the Foresight Nanotechnology Challenges, each conference segment is designed to give both veterans and newcomers the opportunity to explore how nanotechnology can address important challenges facing humanity.

The Foresight Nanotechnology Challenges are:

Meeting global energy needs with clean solutions
Providing abundant clean water globally
Increasing the health and longevity of human life
Maximizing the productivity of agriculture
Making powerful information technology available everywhere
Enabling the development of space

The Vision Weekend, chaired by Dr. Carl F. Kohrt, (Battelle) and Scott Mize (Foresight Nanotech Institute), provides a rare opportunity to hear world-class speakers discuss the future of nanotechnology candidly and off-the-record. Scheduled for October 22-23, 2005, the Vision Weekend is exclusive to Foresight's Participating Members and is attended by a mixture of executives, engineers, research, investors, writers, artists and futurists.

The Applications & Policy sessions, chaired by Charles Harris (Harris & Harris Group) and James Von Ehr, (Zyvex Corporation) for Applications, and Richard Smith (Nanotechnology Policy Foundation) and Christine Peterson (Foresight Nanotech Institute) for Policy, focuses on the Foresight Nanotechnology Challenges. Scheduled for October 24-25, 2005, the Applications & Policy sessions include speakers on nanotech investment today, current international policy, intellectual property in nanotech, and expert panels on each of the Foresight Nanotechnology Challenges.

The Research session, chaired by William Goddard III (California Institute of Technology), Charles Lieber (Harvard University) and Hiroshi Yokayama, (AIST, Japan) is a forum for researchers from all disciplines to present and discuss their recent nanoscale work and results. Scheduled for October 26 and half-day October 27, 2005, the Research sessions include a technical overview tutorial and presentations on nanoscale physics, electronics, tools, sensors, devices, nanotubes, molecular machines, and approaches to developing self- assembling DNA structures.
