Abstract:
A Clearinghouse of Nano Education Resources Online
The NanoTechnology Group Inc. (TNTG), a Texas nonprofit Global Education Consortium, launched their new website this week taking them one step closer to the ultimate goal of becoming an online Clearinghouse of Nano Education Resources.
Finding a delicate balance among advocacy for nano science and math education and the facilitation of Virtual Nano Classrooms and experiential online nano labs has been a path requiring diplomacy, patience and perseverance at maximum levels. Relationships based on respect and inclusion have been a primary precept in the successful expansion of the TNTG organization.
Judith Light Feather, President and Founder of the organization, has followed her personal vision of developing Virtual Classrooms for global access since 1995. Speaking 'from the heart' in many forums, she has traveled the world presenting solutions adaptable to all cultures. Her presentations always reflect her deeply held convictions that global education for every child is not only possible, but a social responsibility involving all stakeholders of the future including governments, private organizations and the corporate world.
Resources for students and teachers are predominant in the Nano Education portion of the site while Informal Education is provided to the public through five live news feeds covering every aspect of nano science and technology. Professors and researchers can keep abreast of the latest global discoveries on a daily basis by making this site their 'home page' for global nano news.
The new "Virtual Nano Exhibit Hall" addresses the commercialization sector that is now growing so rapidly around the world. The service provides a platform for the 'Virtual Presentation' by expanding opportunities to reach the new global audience that expects to have information on-demand. The Virtual Power Point presentations may be changed monthly and products can be displayed visually in this virtual space providing the means to tap into world markets no matter where a home office is located.
Nano science instructional materials forK-12 developed by universities around the world can now be included in the Clearinghouse of resources, or sold in the store, allowing teachers, students and home schooling parents to expand their knowledge base inexpensively.
"We don't have any dues for membership", Light Feather said, "because compatibility and in-kind support are more important to our goals of inclusion than charging membership fees. According to our site stats, most visitors bookmark the site and return often. Selection as a 'Favorite' is the true mark of a successful site."
The new site also has a 'Forum' developed for interactive participation and discussions expanding on the 'Nano for People' concept to raise public awareness by forming an active global community that shares ideas and information, discusses concerns, and suggests solutions. "Participate in the discussions now" said Light Feather, "as the stakeholder of your future."
