Abstract:
Xmark Media, the organisers of the Enlighten Conference, co-located with the PHOTONEX 2015, the UK's showcase photonics exhibition, announces the annual meeting on High Power Diode Lasers & Systems. This FREE-to-attend conference will be held on Wednesday 14thth & Thursday 15th October at the visitor-friendly Ricoh Arena in Coventry.
Advances in diode lasers and diode pumped lasers continue unabated as the range of applications increases. These advances are reflected in the current drive to develop kW-class direct diode laser systems. At the same time, advances in diode pump lasers continue to contribute to advances in solid state and fibre lasers. This year’s speaker programme will showcase the most significant developments of the last twelve months.
Eric Larkins, Chair of the Technical Programme Committee and Professor of Optoelectronics at the University of Nottingham, is most enthusiastic about this year’s programme. “This is an exciting time for high-power diode lasers, with advances being made in brightness, beam combining and the development of kW-class direct diode lasers for industrial applications. Having seen an increase in delegate numbers year on year, we are delighted that we are holding this event for the eighth time alongside the UK’s premier networking/showcasing event for photonics research and technology.”
The presentations from speakers from all over the world will touch on many of the latest developments. As Professor Larkins says, “It is difficult to focus on just one. For example, there are significant advances in high-power GaN lasers operating in the blue-green spectral region. There is also exciting progress in high power quantum cascade lasers at the other end of the spectral range (THz to mid-IR). Both short and long wavelength lasers will result in the development of new technologies and open new markets. At the same time, progress continues on the development of kW class direct diode laser systems operating in the near infrared, with exciting new applications emerging in selective laser melting and other additive manufacturing processes. The invited speakers have been selected to highlight some of these exciting developments and the organisers have also arranged a tour of the nearby Manufacturing Technology Centre (one of Innovate UK’s technology catapults) where work is being undertaken to develop some of these advanced laser-based manufacturing processes.”
HPDLS is organised by the Scottish Chapter of the IEEE Photonics Society and is co-sponsored by the IEEE Photonics Society.
As the programme of invited speakers develops, more information on the website, the organisers are calling for submission of Poster Papers. Potential contributors and delegates are encouraged to visit the High Power Diode Laser & Systems website (www.hpdls.org) for more information and to register to attend.
