Abstract:
Xmark Media the organisers of Photonex 2015, the UK’s showcase photonics conference & exhibition announce the programme and speakers for the 3rd biennial meeting on Optical Metrology. This FREE-to-attend conference will be held on Wednesday 14th October as part of the growing two-day event at the visitor-friendly Ricoh Arena in Coventry.

Photonex 2015 - The 3rd biennial Optical Metrology meeting is announced with an exciting number of speakers from across Europe

Effingham, UK | Posted on July 28th, 2015

Optical techniques are increasingly being used to perform high accuracy measurements in aerospace, automotive and precision manufacturing. One factor driving this growth is the industry need for higher product quality and increased production numbers. Another is the development of technologies which serve the market place, namely optical sources, detectors, computing power and electronics. The meeting will bring together leaders from industry, research institutes and universities to present and discuss ways of applying the latest technologies and how these are applied to provide solutions in the field of optical metrology.

One of the organising Technical Programme Committee and co-chairperson for the meeting is Dr Roger Groves, Head of the Delft Aerospace Non-Destructive Testing Laboratory, who speaks about the meeting. “The 2015 meeting will highlight Optical Metrology as a core element of smart manufacturing, enabling both high quality production of complex materials and efficient production through automation. It is a Key Enabling Technology for the Factories of the Future helping the UK to retain international competitiveness in this area.”

Reinforcing the importance of the meeting to the optics community, fellow committee member and industry veteran, Ian Johnstone, Director of Armstrong Optical, says, “For anyone involved in metrology of any kind, a couple of hours invested in a visit to the Optical Metrology meeting and subsequent stroll around the exhibition will repay the time and effort expended. With optics and the use of light becoming more and more pervasive in society, previously unconsidered measurement questions can now be answered. For example, with the need on a production line for 100% part testing, how do you measure the thickness of the anodised layer on an aluminium component? Visit Photonex 2015 and ask for me - I'll tell you how to do it at the speed of light.”

Attendees may also wish to attend “Laser Processes in Ultra Precision Manufacturing” which is held on the following day. The full conference includes 60 speakers over the two days of Photonex. There is something to appeal to all everyone.

Photonex, now in its 24th year, reports increased number of stands at this year’s exhibition with companies attending from across the globe to share their latest technology from components to complete turnkey solutions applying light technologies.

Potential visitors and contributors to the scientific programme are encouraged to visit Photonex website (www.photonex.org) and to register to visit today.
