New Applications Brochure on Complex Motion Control Systems for Scientific Research

Auburn, MA | Posted on March 31st, 2015

Mastered Core Competences Ensure Accuracy

Building upon decades of experience with motion control and nanopositioning, PI has demonstrated thorough application knowledge to develop and manufacture a plethora of solutions from compact non-magnetic positioning components to full beamline-instrumentation turn-key systems. While the instrumentation of the individual experimental stations is highly specialized, common denominators are long-term stability, high spatial resolution, position repeatability, motion with multiple degrees of freedom, and often the adaption to ultra-high vacuum environments.

Demonstrated Success

PI is the solution partner to deliver a standard or customized product for diverse applications from miniature single axis motors to ultra-precision air bearing systems and parallel kinematic 6-axis Stewart platforms. The broad portfolio of drive technologies is available, from classical magnetic linear motors to stepper motors and non-magnetic piezo motors, UHV and EUV ready. PI develops, manufactures, and qualifies all its core technologies in-house, resulting in a high measure of flexibility with positioning resolution to 0.0001/µm and travel ranges to 1000mm.

Applications of Beamline Instrumentation

There are a myriad of educational and industrial testing scenarios. Examples of where PI has system success include nanotomography, laminography, systems with nanoscopic spatial resolution, vacuum chambers, and full-field X-ray microscopes.
