Abstract:
Iranian researchers designed a new cost-effective method for water purification, separating heavy metals from water using nano-technology.
Lead Author of the study Ali Rakhsha said heavy metals are frequently found in water due to inappropriate use of aquifers and reduction in water wells' volume, the Iranian students' news agency reported.
He noted that the metals include arsenic, iron, chrome, manganese, nickel, cadmium and lead.
The Iranian scientist said that arsenic with density over 10 microgram per liter could cause destructive effects in consumers and raise risk of cancer.
The metal's density is by 10 to 20 times more than the limit in certain areas in Iran.
The method uses nano-cavitation and activated alumina with the capacity of 40 liters per second.
Nano-cavitation method eliminates arsenic from soft water and reduces the costs to one third.
