![]() |
Abstract:
Nexeon - the company developing silicon anode technology for the next generation of lithium ion (Li-ion) batteries - has strengthened its Board with the appointment of a non-executive director (NED) with extensive experience in consumer electronics - a field of great importance to the application of Nexeon technology.
Dr Antti Vasara has a strong track record in the development of strategy and products at Nokia through his experience as Vice President of Nokia's corporate strategy unit and Senior Vice President of the Nokia Eseries product line. During his many years' experience at Nokia, he held senior technology leadership roles in the commercialisation of consumer devices, including as Senior Vice President of Devices Productization and SVP of Mobile Phones Research & Development.
He is currently an Executive VP at Tieto Corporation, a Nordic IT and R&D services company, and an NED at Comptel, the listed software company. Earlier in his career, Dr Vasara spent seven years as a management consultant at McKinsey. He has a PhD in Technical Physics from Helsinki University of Technology.
Welcoming Dr Vasara, Dr Paul Atherton, Nexeon Chairman, said: "I warmly welcome Antti to the Nexeon Board. His extensive and relevant experience speaks for itself, and will be of enormous benefit to Nexeon both strategically and operationally."
Nexeon's silicon anode technology is enabling a new generation of lithium ion batteries with higher charge density for a longer time between charges.

About Nexeon
Nexeon Ltd. (‘Nexeon’) is a battery materials company developing silicon anodes for the next generation of lithium-ion rechargeable batteries. Nexeon scientists have shown that producing silicon with particular morphologies makes it possible to use it as the battery anode material, and to develop batteries with significant performance advantages over their traditional equivalents.
Nexeon is based in Oxfordshire, and has recently commissioned a manufacturing facility capable of producing 20 tonnes of material per year. Nexeon also runs a fully instrumented pilot plant, allowing an accurate understanding of the processes and costs associated with making anode materials. The technology has been conceived with a ‘drop in’ approach, requiring the minimum of changes to an existing Li-ion battery manufacturing operation.
Nexeon targets the automotive and consumer electronics sectors as early targets for its technology, and has established relationships with global manufacturers in these sectors.
