New VDMA Association "Electronics, Micro and Nano Technologies" founded: Inaugural Meeting in Frankfurt/Main, Germany

Frankfurt/Main, Germany | Posted on October 15th, 2014

Rainer Kurtz, CEO of the Kurtz-Ersa Group, Kreuzwertheim, has been elected chairman, and Dr. Thomas Weisener, Managing Director of HNP Mikrosysteme GmbH, Schwerin, has been elected vice chairman.

"In addition to the already existing activities we will intensify and extend additional synergies by means of interdisciplinary topics so that we can provide our members in both sectors - electronics and semiconductor production as well as microproduction and microcomponents - with customer and application-oriented platforms. This way, we are following the industry which is moving in the same direction at the moment", Kurtz describes future activities of the association. "Many modern electronics applications, ranging from game consoles to production automation (Industry 4.0), need highly integrated chips, wifi and sensors", says Weisener. "This can only be achieved by merging electronics, micro and nanotechnologies and by strengthening of joint development and business activities".
The business meeting following the general assembly gave a first impression of this new cooperation: Interested participants could attend presentations covering hot topics from micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) to the multifunctional technology graphene. A joint brochure showing competence profiles of members will be published on the occasion of the "electronica" trade fair on November 11, 2014 in Munich.

VDMA Electronics, Micro and Nano Technologies is the association of European electronics production equipment manufacturers and micro-technology industries. Its approximately 120 member companies are successful players on the various markets of applied micro and nano technology. The development of these technologies and their markets is extremely dynamic. The majority of the member companies have positive turnover expectations for 2014 despite increasing global economic uncertainties. Strong European and international activities are characteristic for this industry.

Further members of the new board of VDMA Electronics, Micro and Nano Technology are:
Dr. Reinhard Degen, Micromotion GmbH, Mainz
Dr. Joachim Heck, Ehrfeld Mikrotechnik BTS GmbH, Wendelsheim
Hans- Ulrich Kurt, Güdel AG, Langenthal, Switzerland
Volker Pape, VISCOM AG, Hannover
Dr. Stefan Rinck, Singulus Technologies AG, Kahl am Main
Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schmutz, ACI AG, Zimmern ob Rottweil

Moreover, the General Assembly has decided to establish the sector groups "Productronics" and "Micro Technologies". The following gentlemen have been elected into the executive committees of the sector groups by the General Assembly as well:

Professor Andreas Hoch, SCHUNK GmbH & Co KG, Lauffen
Edgar Mähringer-Kunz, IMSTec GmbH, Klein-Winternheim

Technolgy and market trends were the topics presented at the business meeting following the inauguration: Precise electron beam micro processing, the integration of electrical functions into 3D-printed components, understanding and recognising transformation ability, MEMS markets and technology perspectives, as well as graphene - physical basics and application fields. The lively discussion was inspired by these highly informative papers.
