Home > Press > New Vice President Takes Helm at CNSE CMOST: Catherine Gilbert To Lead CNSE Children’s Museum of Science and Technology Through Expansion And Relocation
Abstract:
The SUNY College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE)/SUNY Institute of Technology (SUNYIT) today announced Catherine Gilbert has been appointed Vice President of the CNSE Children's Museum of Science and Technology (CNSE CMOST). Gilbert brings with her a wealth of museum experience and a passion for fostering youthful curiosity.
"Governor Andrew Cuomo has made it a priority to engage our youth in creative science, technology, engineering, and math activities as we prepare them for the high-tech future we are building for them. Catherine Gilbert is highly qualified to meet that challenge and we are delighted to have her leading the team at CNSE CMOST," said Dr. Alain Kaloyeros, CEO and Officer in Charge of SUNY CNSE/SUNYIT. "Catherine's appointment is a testament to CNSE/SUNYIT's commitment to inspiring the great thinkers of tomorrow, and we wish her the best of luck."
"I am delighted and honored to serve as the Museum's Vice President and I look forward to pursuing CNSE CMOST's vision to be recognized as a world class science center, inspiring students of all ages to explore, discover, and imagine their world. The Museum boasts an incredible staff of dedicated individuals who contribute their talents toward enlivening CNSE CMOST's mission," Gilbert said. "My aspiration is that this venture will result in a museum which will exemplify progressive educational strategies and satisfy the modern museum-goers' expectation to be an active participant in the museum experience."
Gilbert received a Master's degree in Museum Education from Tufts University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History from Marist College. She has spent the past six-and-a-half years as Director of the Museum Association of New York, including her time spent as Executive Director of Museumwise before the two organizations merged. Prior to that, she spent nearly a decade connecting communities with the wealth of learning experiences offered by museums and heritage organizations by developing programs and resources at the Miami Children's Museum, the New York State Historical Association, Old South Meeting House, and the Boston Children's Museum.
Gilbert will lead CNSE CMOST through an exciting time as it prepares to expand and relocate to the Albany NanoTech complex. She expects to forge meaningful and sustainable relationships with the museum's growing membership, educators, and stakeholders while positioning the museum as a recognized partner for parents, caregivers, and schools.
CNSE CMOST is the Capital Region's only science center designed specifically for children and was named as one of Parents Magazine's top 20 science centers in the United States, providing an exciting, hands-on environment that encourages children to explore, discover, and imagine.
