Newly merged CNSE/SUNYIT Associate Professor of Nanoengineering Dr. F. (Shadi) Shahedipour-Sandvik to leverage cutting-edge experience at the NanoCollege and manage internationally recognized journal.
The newly merged SUNY College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) / SUNY Institute of Technology (SUNYIT) today announced that Associate Professor of Nanoengineering Dr. F. (Shadi) Shahedipour-Sandvik has been named Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Electronic Materials. In this additional role, Dr. Shahedipour-Sandvik will draw upon her extensive research and teaching experience at the world-class Albany NanoTech Complex, as well as her recent experience as the SUNY Research Foundation's first Presidential Fellow, to oversee the monthly publication of the latest research on properties and applications of electronic materials.
"I am delighted that the Journal of Electronic Materials has chosen to recognize the breadth of knowledge and experience that Dr. Shahedipour-Sandvik will bring as the publication's new Editor-in-Chief," said Dr. Alain Kaloyeros, Chief Executive Officer and Officer in Charge of the newly merged SUNY CNSE/SUNYIT institution. "Whether it's her experience developing the next generation of optoelectronics in collaboration with the NanoCollege's globally recognized corporate partners, her efforts as a passionate faculty member focused on inspiring students, or her recent work as the SUNY Research Foundation's Presidential Fellow where she supported Governor Andrew Cuomo's high-tech research, education, and business blueprint, Dr. Shahedipour-Sandvik will adeptly guide this well-respected journal with her unique skillset."
Dr. Shahedipour-Sandvik will take over the reigns from the journal's current Editor-in-Chief, Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Pennsylvania State University Dr. Suzanne Mohney. Dr. Shahedipour-Sandvik will direct editorial activities and the peer-review process to ensure the thorough vetting of electronic materials research reports by respected colleagues before publication. She will also oversee a number of editor positions and serve on and advise the journal's Editorial Oversight Committee as she helps to impact the direction of research in specific fields by selecting and highlighting critical scientific findings. The appointment is scheduled to end in December of 2017.
"Building upon my multi-faceted role at the newly merged SUNY CNSE/SUNYIT institution, I am excited to embark on yet another opportunity that reflects the leadership role that the SUNY NanoCollege has taken in this advanced field of research," said Dr. Shahedipour-Sandvik. "As I accept this position, I look forward to working with the Journal of Electronic Materials team, as I continue educating the newly merged CNSE/SUNYIT's top-tier students within the institution's unmatched $20 billion high-tech ecosystem."
Most recently, Dr. Shahedipour-Sandvik was selected to coordinate the SUNY Networks of Excellence initiative as the first Research Foundation Presidential Fellow. Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the four networks as critical components of New York's Innovation Agenda that include START-UP NY, incubator "Hot Spots," the New York State Venture Capital Fund, and the NYS Innovation Network, all of which bolster entrepreneurialism and high-tech growth opportunities through public-private partnerships. She has also served as the chair of the Graduate and Research Committee of the System-wide University Faculty Senate and as SUNY system Provost Fellow.
As she begins the Editor-in-Chief position at the journal beginning in Fall 2014, Dr. Shahedipour-Sandvik will also continue her ongoing Albany Nanotech Complex-based research and educational duties as Associate Professor of Nanoengineering. Her current, leading-edge research is focused on the development of high-performance, wide-bandgap III-Nitride optoelectronic materials and devices. She received a Ph.D. in Experimental Solid State Physics from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1998 and received the New York Governor's 2005 "Women of Excellence Award," among others.

The Journal of Electronic Materials, a joint publication of The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, welcomes articles on methods for preparing and evaluating the chemical, physical, electronic, and optical properties of electronic materials, and it examines new applications for semiconductors, magnetic alloys, dielectrics, nanoscale materials, and photonic materials, sharing the latest research and development in these advanced fields with leading scientists around the world.
