Veteran Broadcaster Joins CNSE Executive Team, Bringing Wealth of Experience to Further Enhance the NanoCollege's Statewide Media and Marketing Efforts

Albany, NY | Posted on December 26th, 2013

In support of Governor Andrew Cuomo's high-tech innovation economy, the SUNY College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) announced that veteran television news broadcaster Jerry Gretzinger will become the newest member of its executive team.

This announcement highlights the NanoCollege's ability to attract top talent to further enable New York's successful nanotechnology-related business, education, and workforce growth strategy and share its resultant narrative with the world.

"We are thrilled to welcome Jerry to CNSE where he will be able to effectively share the NanoCollege's positive growth story on a daily basis," said CNSE Senior Vice President and CEO Dr. Alain E. Kaloyeros. "His knowledge of the communications industry, familiarity with the region, and excitement in playing a greater role in New York State's burgeoning innovation economy under the leadership of Governor Cuomo will make Jerry a wonderful asset to the college as we continue to spread the word about the leading-edge work taking place here."

"I'm very excited to be part of the world-class SUNY CNSE, and I look forward to fostering the NanoCollege's critical educational, outreach, research, development, and commercialization missions," said Gretzinger. "As an experienced journalist who watched and reported on the college for years as it grew and flourished, I'm eager to share CNSE's stories of multi-faceted, game-changing progress with the world. My family and I are thankful for the opportunity to be a part of this transformative New York State effort."

As the Vice President for Strategic Communications and Public Relations, Gretzinger will oversee CNSE's top-tier communications, media, and marketing efforts to support the statewide growth and international recognition of CNSE, the most advanced innovation enterprise of its kind in the world, with more than $17 billion in investments to-date.

Gretzinger, a two-time Emmy nominee, has been recognized by the New York State Broadcasters Association, the Associated Press, and the CableACE Competition Committee for excellence in writing and videography. Mr. Gretzinger's invaluable ability to communicate a targeted message to a diverse audience will further support CNSE as it continues to sustain its global leadership in areas such as education and workforce development which are opening up numerous opportunities for New York's next generation of nanotechnology-focused scientists and researchers.

Most recently, the 41-year-old Saratoga County resident was employed by WRGB (CBS 6) where Gretzinger began as a weeknight reporter but quickly moved onto the anchor desk to co-anchor the nightly news with Liz Bishop. Prior to his arrival in Albany, Mr. Gretzinger worked in broadcast journalism in Springfield, Massachusetts; Providence, Rhode Island; and Wappingers Falls and Kingston, New York. He was also employed as the public relations manager of Six Flags New England and served as a communications consultant for various small businesses and organizations. He attended Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York, where he earned a B.A. in Communications.

"To be invited to be a part of CNSE is a humbling experience," said Gretzinger. "I have been a television news anchor and reporter in New York's capital region for 11 years, and it has been an honor to serve the community in that capacity. I couldn't be more excited about this opportunity to tell the story of New York's unparalleled high-tech revolution which features chapters that have yet to be written."

About SUNY College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE)
The SUNY College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) is the first college in the world dedicated to education, research, development, and deployment in the emerging disciplines of nanoscience, nanoengineering, nanobioscience, and nanoeconomics. With more than $17 billion in high-tech investments, CNSE represents the world’s most advanced university-driven research enterprise, offering students a one-of-a-kind academic experience and providing over 300 corporate partners with access to an unmatched ecosystem for leading-edge R&D and commercialization of nanoelectronics and nanotechnology innovations. CNSE’s footprint spans upstate New York, including its Albany NanoTech Complex, a 1.3 million-square-foot megaplex with the only fully-integrated, 300mm and 450mm wafer computer chip pilot prototyping and demonstration lines within 135,000 square feet of Class 1 capable cleanrooms. More than 3,100 scientists, researchers, engineers, students, and faculty work here, from companies including IBM, Intel, GlobalFoundries, SEMATECH, Samsung, TSMC, Applied Materials, Tokyo Electron, ASML, and Lam Research. CNSE’s latest expansion, which includes NanoFab Xtension (NFX), headquarters for the world’s first Global 450mm Consortium (G450C), and the Zero Energy Nanotechnology (ZEN) building, a living laboratory for green energy technologies, will add more than 1,000 scientists, researchers, and engineers from CNSE and global corporations. CNSE Kiernan Plaza in downtown Albany is home to CNSE's Smart Cities Technology Innovation Center (SCiTI). CNSE’s Solar Energy Development Center in Halfmoon, which provides a prototyping and demonstration line for next-generation CIGS thin-film solar cells, and the CNSE Photovoltaic Manufacturing and Technology Development Facility (CNSE MDF) in Rochester, the solar industry’s first full-service collaborative facility dedicated to crystalline silicon, support CNSE’s leadership of the U.S. Photovoltaic Manufacturing Consortium (PVMC). CNSE’s Smart System Technology and Commercialization Center of Excellence (STC) in Rochester offers state-of-the-art capabilities for MEMS fabrication and packaging. CNSE also co-founded and manages operations at the Computer Chip Commercialization Center (Quad-C) at SUNYIT and is lead developer of the Marcy Nanocenter site as part of the Nano Utica initiative, and is leading development of the High-Tech Manufacturing Innovation Hub and Medical Innovation and Commercialization Hub, both located in Buffalo.
