Abstract:
San Diego Convention Center August 2013. TRANSFORM - a database of complex geometric designs in common lithography formats was launched to aid research into new metamaterial design.
At the 2013 SPIE Optics and Photonics conference Transcode Research founder, Stefan Samociuk, gave a presentation on the establishment of an open source database of design material aimed specifically at researchers working in the fields of photonics and matamaterials. Physical Samples were available to interested delegates from current research into 35GHz radar frequency metamaterials to test whether a return signal can be encrypted using the complex geometry of the design. Potential application of these radar based materials is primarily at developing high security, passive "identification surfaces" for airborne objects such as aircraft. The samples on display were produced by Novacentrix Inc, Austin Texas, using JS-B25P silver ink and cured with a Novacentrix Pulse Forge 3300X2 unit. This system allows manufacture onto a flexible film such as Novele PET that can be bonded to curved surfaces such as a wing or fuselage. The data is stored in industry standard image and OASIS semiconductor CAD files for direct input to lithography mask production systems.
