Abstract:
For the first time, a book has been authored devoting to ceramics as materials for construction work in the mill and equipment/machineries. This book provides the Material solutions to the harsh environments with valuable imperatives in commissioning of new plant and in selection of materials for machineries.
In the 1st section, traditional ceramic products such as flooring bricks, tiles, cement as well as fibre glass and refractory, used in the construction of different areas in pulp and paper mills are discussed in this book.
Advanced ceramic products, used in the pulp and paper mill machineries and equipments used are alumina, silicon carbide, silicon nitride, sialon, zircon, and ceramic composites etc, which are discussed thoroughly here. Thermal spray coating in the new equipment and for repairing of machineries can be found in one of the chapters. One of the chapters is specifically devoted to the production of silicon carbide whiskers and other advanced ceramic materials using agro-residues.
Subject of ceramics in paper manufacturing also encompasses the vital issue of recycling the solid wastes, generated from the mills to ceramic products. Pulp and paper mills generate considerable amount of solid waste products namely fibrous sludge, lime sludge, plastic wastes and coal ash. The developments as well as case studies on production of common ceramic materials such as bricks, tiles and cement also form part of the books as these are subject of vital issues for the mills.
Nano ceramics and future forecasting for applications of ceramics in pulp and paper manufacturing make the book quite useful and interesting for both paper mills and machine manufacturers as well ceramics industries.
The paper machinery manufacturers find now the ceramic parts and components to be the appropriate materials to address the harsh environments. All ceramic materials used in the machineries in raw materials preparation, pulping, washing, bleaching, stock preparation, paper machine former, press and dryer, finishing area, effluent treatment, pumps and machineries are discussed chapter wise.
A book, must for all the machinery manufacturers, quite useful for pulp and paper mills and scientific/teaching organisation, specialised on Materials science- Ceramics; Commissioning of mill, Solving/recycling solid wastes.
