Abstract:
PI (Physik Instrumente) LP offers a large variety of piezo-driven precision positioners for high resolution microscope applications.
Fast Objective Focusing Devices - PIFOC® Family
Piezo-driven fast nanofocus devices not only provide nanometer precise focus control but they are also used in in 3-D imaging and Z-stack image acquisition due to their rapid, millisecond-range settling speed. Several devices are available to match different objective sizes and weights. Travel ranges from 50 µm to 2 mm are available.
Piezo-Sample Positioning and Scanning Stages - PInano® Stage Family
Instead of moving the objective lens, the sample can also be positioned. The PInano® stage family consists of more than 10 models of XY, XYZ and Z positioners with a variety of, travel ranges, apertures (for slides, well plates and petri dishes), and feedback sensors to suit any need from focusing to high speed 3-dimensional tracking.
Motorized Long Travel Stages with High-Stability Ultrasonic Drives - PIline® Family
Several stages with long travel ranges to 100 mm and more, based on ultrasonic-ceramic piezo linear motors are available for "coarse" positioning with resolution in the 100 nanometer range. Due to their self-locking properties at rest, they provide better long-term stability than conventional motor-/lead screw stages. The ultrasonic motors also provide very high speed to 100 mm/sec and more.
Piezo Beam Steering Mirrors
High speed piezo tip/tilt and beam steering devices scan laser beams in two coplanar axes avoiding polarization rotation errors typically induced by stacked single galvo scanners.
Controllers and Software
A variety of single and multi-axis piezo controllers for laboratory use and OEMs are offered.
Controllers are compatible with leading imaging software platforms such as Metamorph® and µManager, and LabView® and MATLAB® drivers are also available.
Application Examples
Two Photon Microscopy, Optical Trapping, STORM Stochastic Optical Reconstruction Microscopy, PALM Photoactivated Localization Microscopy, STED Stimulated Emission Depletion, SIM Structured Illumination Microscope, Surface Metrology
Catalog Explains Technology behind the Products
The precision positioning systems are covered in a new print and PDF catalog, available for download at
