Abstract:
SouthWest NanoTechnologies, Inc. (SWeNT) Director of R&D, Ricardo Prada Silvy, will discuss new advancements in the SWeNT carbon nanotubes effectiveness in LI Ion batteries at the 2012 Nanotech Conference and Expo at the Santa Clara Convention Center on June 19th at 2:30 PM in Grand Ballroom H.

Prada Silvy's discussion is titled, Specialty Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes for Advanced Li-ion Battery Cathodes. SWeNTs Specialty Multi-Wall CNTs (SMW) enable greater ease of dispersion and higher electrical conductivity than other multi-wall CNTs produced in commercial quantities.

"We're excited about the findings of our research showing that 1% wt SWeNT specialty multi-walled CNT can replace 6% wt of standard conductive carbon-P in current Li-ion battery cathode formulation, Prada Silvy explains. "This results in improved cycle life, increased specific energy, improved performance in rate capability and lower impedance in high power electrodes. These performance benefits are attributed to an optimal control of CNT structure (morphology, higher aspect ratio (L/D), fewer number of walls, lower structural defects) and high purity levels."

SWeNT is also exhibiting at the event (Booth #909) where it will showcasetwo new grades in its SMW™ line of Specialty Multi-wall CNT, SMW200 and SMW210 which are used as additives that enable higher electrical conductivity in polymer compounds and improved cathode performance in Lithium Ion batteries.

The company will also debut it SG65i, a new Single-Wall Carbon Nanotube (SWCNT) product with an exceptionally high concentration of semiconducting SWCNT species developed for use in printed semiconductor devices.

SWeNT conductive and semi-conductive CNT inks for flexible printed electronics and displays are based on V2V™ Ink technology developed by alliance partner, Chasm Technologies, Inc. Using Single-Wall CNTs, these inks can be printed using commercial, high-volume printing methods and equipment, including flexographic, gravure and screen printing.
