Abstract:
Charles M. Lieber, the Mark Hyman, Jr., Professor of Chemistry at Harvard University, will deliver the Chemistry Department's 2012 University Lecture, a series of talks about cutting-edge developments in the field held April 18-20.
A leading materials scientist, Lieber focuses his research on science and technology at the nanoscale, using novel synthesized materials to find innovative solutions in areas ranging from biology and medicine to energy and computing. His lab's work seeks to develop technologies that connect nanoelectronics and biology, looking for new approaches to complex problems, such as disease marker detection and the development of novel hybrid tissue.
His honors include the Pioneer Award from the National Institutes of Health, the Feynman Prize in Nanotechnology and the National Science Foundation Creativity Award.
Lieber will present the following talks, all beginning at 4 p.m. in Merkert 127: "Whither Nanotechnology?" April 18; "Nanowires: From Synthesis to Energy Applications," April 19; and "Nanoelectronics Meets Biology," April 20.
