"Synthesis and Characterization of
Au-Ag Core-Shell Spherical Nanoparticles"
Abstract:
Silver and gold nanoparticles have received considerable attention due to their unique optical properties. Their localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) band is the basis for many applications in biosensors, photothermal cancer therapy, and surface-enhanced Raman scattering. Combining these two metals in core-shell entities offers further possibilities for tailoring and tuning the LSPR by changing the thickness of the external shell. Both gold and silver have a face-centered cubic (fcc) crystal structure and very similar crystal lattice constants. For these reasons, it is possible to synthesize gold-silver alloys or core-shell structures using various approaches.

"Synthesis and Characterization of Au-Ag Core-Shell Spherical Nanoparticles"

Potsdam, NY | Posted on November 18th, 2011

This presentation will review the optical properties (LSPR) of Au and Ag nanoparticles and recent work aimed at synthesizing Au-Ag core-shell nanostructures and modeling their optical properties. The results of our research focused on the synthesis and characterization of Au-Ag core-shell spherical nanoparticles will be also presented. The suitability of the prepared particles for applications in optoelectronics will be discussed.
