International School of Engineering (ISE), a first-of-its-kind engineering school with a vision of delivering applied advanced knowledge within a rigorous, inspiring and collaborative environment, was launched today at Hyderabad. ISE offers Certificate in Engineering Excellence (CEE) and Executive M.Tech. programs, designed to not just meet industry needs but to beat them.
Indian industry desperately needs to move beyond simple labour cost arbitrage to doing high-end engineering in product development, applied industrial research, technology consulting and breeding entrepreneurship. ISE aims to address this by bringing together the best of academia and industry on to a single platform.
The first programs from ISE are designed for working IT professionals with an aim to transforming programmers into product engineers, architects, consultants, researchers, entrepreneurs and leaders. ISE's global network of mentors come from universities such as MIT, Stanford, CMU, Yale, Johns Hopkins, University of Texas at El Paso, IITs, etc. and companies such as Deloitte, Microsoft, GE, HP, Cognizant, SAS, OpenText, Informatica, RBI, Bank of America, etc. who help design courses that are applied, contemporary and industry-relevant.
CEE is a weekend-only 30-day program spread across 3.5 months. It is designed for working professionals who want to master advanced engineering in a specialized domain for a career boost. This certification program is built in association with the Language Technologies Institute (LTI) of Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), USA. CEE programs currently focus on High Performance Enterprise Product Engineering, and Business Analytics and Optimization. The first batch of CEE will start from 30th of July, 2011.
ISE conducted an online contest for Extreme Engineering (E2) for the working professionals and 300 winners from this contest got a chance to attend the workshop "Meet the Mentors" by Dr. Jaime Carbonell, Director, LTI, CMU.
ISE is also partnering with GITAM University to design and deliver Executive M. Tech. degree programs for working professionals. It is a 2-year program and is conducted on 80 Saturdays to enable the professionals to get the degree without disturbing their work schedules. The curriculum is designed from ground up to suit the growing needs of data analytics professionals, modelers and consultants in the industry.
Sri Damodar Raja Narasimha, Dy CM and Minister for Higher and Technical Education, Andhra Pradesh, was the chief guest at the launch of ISE. He unveiled the ISE Plaque and lighted the candle along with Dr. Sridhar Mitta, MD, NextWealth Entrepreneurs. The Chief Mentors of ISE, Dr. P. Rama Rao, Padma Vibhushan and Chairman, Governing Council, ARCI and Dr. Jaime Carbonell, Director, LTI, CMU, and Mr. V. Rama Rao, Chairman, ISE and Dr. Dakshinamurthy V Kolluru, President, ISE, were also present on the occasion.
Dr. Jaime Carbonell exchanged the MOU for CEE with Mr. V. Rama Rao.
Commenting on the launch of ISE, Dr. Dakshinamurthy V Kolluru, President, ISE, said, "ISE will be a one-of-its-kind Engineering institute where the next generation engineers will be created to compete in the global market. The Indian IT market, expecting to grow to $200 Bn by 2020, will see a shortfall of 3.5 Mn skilled professionals. There are other emerging engineering areas such as Nanotechnology that will require a huge pool of skilled professionals. ISE will create and help other institutes create competent engineers who will be able to fill this gaping divide. ISE will offer its candidates an unparalleled commitment to imparting world class engineering education, which is sorely lacking in India today."
