Abstract:
WHERE: UAlbany College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering
CNSE's Albany NanoTech Complex - Fuller Road, Albany

WHEN: Wednesday, July 13 - 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) of the University at Albany and the Children's Museum of Science and Technology (CMOST) are partnering to provide 16 middle-school students with a unique firsthand look at the exciting world of nanotechnology when they attend the CNSE-CMOST Summer NanoCamp on Wednesday, July 13 at CNSE's Albany NanoTech Complex.
The CNSE-CMOST Summer NanoCamp is designed to give students between the ages of 11 and 14 an introduction to the emerging science of nanotechnology and a window into how it will shape their future. Participants will receive an introductory presentation on nanotechnology; tour CNSE's world-class Albany NanoTech Complex, a $7 billion megaplex that is the most advanced in the academic world; and have the opportunity to engage in several hands-on activities, including gowning up in cleanroom "bunny suits," exploring nanomedicine applications and building polymer chains.

The best opportunities for media coverage are as follows:

10 - 11 a.m. in CESTM Rotunda -
Students will gown up in cleanroom "bunny suits"

12:30 - 1:30 p.m. in NanoFab South Auditorium -
Students will use a life-sized model of a human torso to conduct nanomedicine demonstrations

2 - 2:30 p.m. in NanoFab South Rotunda -
Students will learn about the role of polymers in nanotechnology and build polymer chains

The CNSE-CMOST Summer NanoCamp provides excellent photo and video opportunities. Reporters/photographers wishing to cover the event should follow signs to the CESTM and/or NanoFab South buildings at CNSE's Albany NanoTech Complex.
