Abstract:
Leaders from the groundbreaking U.S. Photovoltaic Manufacturing Consortium (PVMC) - a more than $300 million partnership between SEMATECH and the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) of the University at Albany to enable the development of advanced PV-related manufacturing processes - will address solar suppliers, researchers, scientists, policy makers and key industry stakeholders on the importance of a collaborative supply chain in the U.S. during a series of presentations at Intersolar North America 2011, being held in San Francisco, CA from July 11 through 13.
Created as part of the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) SunShot initiative, which is designed to reduce the cost of photovoltaic solar energy systems by about 75 percent over the next decade, the PVMC will engage more than 40 companies and organizations from throughout the solar community. Through PVMC, SEMATECH and CNSE will spearhead a unique research and development collaboration through which industry, academia and government will accelerate the development, commercialization and manufacturing of next-generation copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS) thin film PV manufacturing technologies, increasing performance while driving down the cost and risk of bringing them to the marketplace.
As executives representing the PVMC, invited speakers Mr. Dan Armbrust, president and chief executive officer of SEMATECH and Dr. Pradeep Haldar, vice president for clean energy programs and professor and head of nanoeconomics at CNSE, will provide first-hand introductions to the PV Manufacturing Consortium and discuss how a collaborative approach can provide significant, positive and sustainable impact on the growth of the U.S. PV industry.
