Abstract:
New materials, applications and processes for aerospace and defense manufacturing will be showcased in three Innovations Centers on the floor at AeroDef, the first comprehensive, vertically integrated exposition and technical conference for the entire aerospace and defense manufacturing industry, Tuesday - Thursday, April 5 - 7 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif.
The Boeing Company
The Boeing Company will be showcasing several innovations and applications in four areas of interest, highlighting different aspects of aerospace and defense manufacturing:
Metals:
As titanium becomes an even more prevalent material in aircraft, Boeing is using several unique titanium manufacturing technologies to produce contoured parts. Attendees can also see a Boeing restorative repair process that can extend the life expensive complex machined parts.
Composites:
Boeing will show recent technologies for out-of-autoclave processing of composites.
Rapid Prototyping:
Visitors will see how the latest rapid prototyping technologies help Boeing manufacture end user parts.
Motion Tracking:
In this section of the exhibit, Boeing will show how this cutting edge technology can be used to support manufacturing from measurement to tracking items in a workspace.
The Compufacturing Manufacturing Alliance
Compufacturing members will demonstrate how their joint solutions can create an automated, integrated assembly process that will revolutionize how complex aerospace equipment is built.
The Computational Manufacturing Alliance was founded by five companies whose technologies link significant aspects of the process of designing, manufacturing and assembling complex products. The members of the Alliance call their solution "Compufacturing," the integration of a "Digital Thread" woven throughout the process.
Alliance members plan to demonstrate their solution by showing how the fuselage of an F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), an essential aircraft jointly produced by Lockheed Martin, BAE Systems and Northrop Grumman, or other aircraft, can be more efficiently produced by employing the "Digital Thread" approach to aerostructure development and production, using a mock-up that resembles the upper OML surface of the center fuselage of large jet fighters. This will be the first public display of the Compufacturing solution.
Emerging Technology Showcase
An Emerging Technology Showcase will provide interactive and hands-on opportunities to explore how tomorrow's products are being made. The 2011 showcase will feature:
Additive Manufacturing. Expo visitors will be able to see how additive manufacturing, a new technology that is revolutionizing product development, is allowing companies to expand the boundaries of their imagination and produce products faster and at lower cost.
Nanotechnology. Attendees will be able to see how and why nanotechnology can improve product design, processes and cut costs.
MicroManufacturing. Displays will show how manufacturers are now producing parts and features of just a few microns.
