WVU gets $4.6M gift from Ruby McQuain Trust; matching state funds to boost total close to $10M
Abstract:
Graduate research at West Virginia University is getting a nearly $10 million boost.
The Hazel Ruby McQuain Charitable Trust is donating $4.6 million, and that amount will be matched under the state's Research Trust Fund program
WVU said Monday the gift creating the WVU Ruby Scholars Graduate Fellowship Program is the largest ever for its graduate research fellowships
McQuain Trust board member Stephen Farmer says the goal is to help WVU attract students from across the country, and WVU President James Clements calls it a game changer.
The endowment will support research in energy and environmental sciences; nanotechnology and material science; biotechnological and biomedical sciences; and biometrics and other identification technologies.
