Russian nanotechnology to conquer world market
Abstract:
The world market of nanotechnological products is worth $250 billion and by 2015 it can reach an astronomical sum of $3 trillion. Russia intends to take a respectable place in this market. At present, the Rosnano state corporation has over 100 projects up its sleeve.
The joint project of Rosnano and IPG Photonics, the world leader in laser equipment, promises to become very interesting. As part of this project, Rosnano is investing in the production of fibre lasers, which are used in telecommunication equipment for long-range communication. Rosnano is to buy a considerable part of the shares belonging to IRE-Polus , which is IPG's Russian sister- company, for $50 million. The money will be spent on expanding the company's production capacity in the town of Friazino near Moscow and on introducing new technology. According to Valentin Gapontsev, the Director of IRE-Polus, the company's turnover will reach $300 million in the next few years.
