Abstract:
Iran is the leading Muslim country in the field of nanotechnology, while it stands among the 15 top world nations in the field, an Iranian official announced on Saturday.
"We rank first in the production of nanotechnology and nanoscience in the region and the Muslim world and we have gained the 14th standing among the world countries," Iranian Vice-President for Science and Technology Nasrin Soltankhah said.
Soltankhah also announced that Iran is among the only three world countries which have compiled a National Nanotechnology Plan.
Being the 14th country in the world nanotechnology standings is considered as a major progress for Iran since it was the 60th world country in the field in 2000 and the 6th among the Islamic countries.
Iran has taken wide strides in Nanotechnology and Nanoscience in the last decade in a move to become a leading world country in the field. Head of Iran's main center for the development of nanotechnology known as 'The Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council (INIC)' Saeed Sarkar reiterated in July 2009 that 15 Iranian universities at M.S. level and 5 more universities at the PhD level admit students in the field of nanotechnology in Iran today.
He said that the main goal pursued by the INIC is making money and producing wealth through nanotechnology.
Sarkar predicted that nanotechnology would be able to own a 1,000-billion-dollar market in future, "and according to the plans, Iran should enjoy a 2% share in that market".
"At present we have 20 active and 50 newly-established companies working in the field of nanotechnology in Iran," he said last year.
The latest nanotechnology advancements and discoveries in Iran are found on FNA's website on a daily basis.
