Ray Bowen, director of the National Science Board and former Texas A&M president, has been named keynote speaker for this Sunday's Buckyball Discovery Gala, the kickoff event in Rice University's Week of Nano. He will talk about nanotechnology's impact on economic development. The National Science Board governs the National Science Foundation and is a policy adviser to the president and Congress.

The gala is the first event in Rice's Week of Nano, which continues Oct. 11-14 with the Buckyball Discovery Conference. The conference will bring the world's leading experts in nanotechnology to Rice for a comprehensive look at nano's ramifications for energy, health, environment, nano safety, defense, homeland security, advanced materials and more.
