Abstract:
The FDA Center for Devices and Radiological Health is organizing a Public workshop titled "Medical Devices & Nanotechnology: Manufacturing, Characterization, and Biocompatibility Considerations" to be held on September 23, 2010 at the Hilton Washington DC/North Gaithersburg in Gaithersburg, MD.
All parties who are interested in the application of nanotechnology in medical devices are encouraged to register and actively participate in this workshop. Registration information relating to this day-long workshop can be found at the following location:
www.fda.gov/MedicalDevices/NewsEvents/WorkshopsConferences/ucm222591.htm
The purpose of this workshop is to obtain information on the safety and effectiveness of medical devices utilizing nanotechnology. Specifically, FDA would like public input on manufacturing, characterization, and biocompatibility evaluation of medical devices containing or utilizing nanomaterials and nanostructures, including diagnostics. FDA is seeking input on these topics and requests comments on a number of related questions.
There are two planned sessions for the workshop: manufacturing/characterization and biocompatibility/toxicological considerations. Each session provides two types of participations; time limited oral presentations during the allotted public comments period and round-table discussions. While oral presentations are open for the public regardless of the experience with nanotechnology, the participants for roundtable discussions will be selected based on their experience on nanotechnology.
We would appreciate it if you could also encourage your colleagues and other interested parties in organizations and consortiums to which you may belong to attend this important public workshop.
