Abstract:
Dr. Andriy Kovalenko will make a keynote presentation at the 2010 International Conference on Nanotechnology for the Forest Products Industry, presented by TAPPI and VTT. He is Senior Research Officer, Group Leader - Theory and Modeling, NRC-NINT and Adjunct Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Alberta. The event will occur September 27-29, 2010 at the Dipoli Congress Centre in Espoo, Finland. The theme of this year's event is "Getting Down to Business with Nanotech Products."

TAPPI & VTT Nanotechnology Conference Features Dr. Kovalenko as a Keynoter

Norcross, GA | Posted on May 27th, 2010

Kovalenko will present "Theory, Modeling, and Simulation on Multiple Scales for Nanotechnology Applications," on Tuesday, September 28, September 2010.

Dr. Kovalenko is a leading, internationally recognized expert in theoretical and computational methods of modeling on multiple space and time scales, including statistical physics and electronic structure theory. His focus is development of theoretical methods capable of predicting the behaviour of nanosystems.

He has proposed a new statistical-mechanical molecular theory of solvation, which bridges the gap between electronic structure, atomistic simulations, and system functioning. He has applied it to provide realistic description of physical and chemical properties and processes in various nanosystems. They include:

• complex molecular liquids;
• electronic and solvation structure and thermodynamics in solution and at solid-liquid and liquid-liquid interfaces;
• chemical reactions and nanocatalysis in solution;
• electrochemistry of solutions sorbed in nanoporous materials;
• polymers in solutions and melts; transport of nanoparticles across biomembranes and liquid interfaces; and,
• self-assembly, conformational stability and aggregation of supramolecules and biomolecules in solution.

This internationally known event brings together leading researchers, industry experts, government representatives and other stakeholders to share advances, perspectives and discuss new ideas and breakthrough concepts on nanotechnology-based advances.
