London | Posted on April 26th, 2010

Bio Nano Consulting, specialists in bio and nanotechnology partnerships between the academic and industrial sectors, announces the appointment of Professor Lord Alec Broers as Chairman of the Board.

Professor Lord Broers brings extensive industry, academic and scientific expertise, having served at prominent University establishments, and as Chairman of the House of Lords Science and Technology Select Committee between 2004 and 2007. His remit at Bio Nano Consulting includes facilitating ongoing partnerships between academia and the wider life science and technology industries.

Educated at Melbourne University and the University of Cambridge, he subsequently worked in Research & Development at IBM laboratories in the USA for nineteen years - becoming an IBM Fellow and ultimately taking responsibility for the company's development of chip technologies.

Lord Broers returned to the UK in 1984 as Head of Electrical Engineering at Cambridge University and Fellow of Trinity College. He subsequently became Head of the Department of Engineering and Master of Churchill College.

More recently, Professor Lord Broers served as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Cambridge and was President of the Royal Academy of Engineering from 2001 to 2006. He was knighted in 1998 for services to education before being made a ‘life peer' in 2004.

Key responsibilities at Bio Nano Consulting include further strengthening the company's expanding revenue streams and building its growing reputation as the microsystems and nanotechnology consultancy of choice to the biomedical, healthcare and high-technology industries.

Commenting on the appointment, David Sarphie, Chief Executive Officer at Bio Nano Consulting, commented: "We are delighted to welcome Professor Lord Broers to our Board. His appointment brings further high-level expertise to the table. In particular, his wealth of experience in driving the strategy in businesses ranging from small start-ups through to large international conglomerates, including such eminent companies as IBM, coupled with his pedigree in the academic world, will be invaluable to Bio Nano, Consulting, adding additional weight to our skill sets, service offering and international standing."
