University Hosts Talk on Futuristic Technologies
Abstract:
Space colonization and nanotechnology will be two of the subjects covered during a lunchtime lecture hosted by Northwestern University in Qatar (NU-Q) on Monday, April 12.
Patrick McCray, Professor of History of Science and Technology from the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB), is the latest distinguished speaker in the University's spring lecture series. He will deliver his lecture to NU-Q students, faculty and staff, alongside members of the Doha public.
Entitled 'Visioneering: Histories of Radical Technological Optimism', the lecture will explore the different possibilities society has envisioned for the future of technology, including space colonization, nanotechnology, internet-based commerce, and even life extension. According to Dr. McCray, such technologies have not ceased to capture the public imagination and have stimulated dialogue between science, business, and politics.
