Notre Dame's new engineering facility takes research to the next step
Abstract:
In the lobby of the new Stinson-Remick Hall at the University of Notre Dame, visitors can observe through a wall of glass the 9,000-square-foot cleanroom where researchers will conduct cutting-edge scientific research.
On the lower level, nanoscientists are working to help craft the next generation of super computers. In the Energy Center, engineers are researching ways to create energy more efficiently, provide safer nuclear waste storage, and develop solar and other renewable energy sources. Elsewhere, colleagues are working to develop tiny devices designed to detect whether the DNA of certain organisms is present in an ecosystem, which would help ecologists protect against invasive species.
