The Concrete Society is pleased to announce a four-date lecture tour ‘Cementing the future of concrete - science & sustainability' presented by its Concrete Ambassador for 2010, Professor Karen Scrivener.

Karen Scrivener is the first ‘Concrete Ambassador' of The Society and will address a broad-based audience including student and science groups through to true concrete aficionados and all those involved in the complete concrete industry supply chain.

The topic of the 2010 lecture, which is free to all to attend, is nanoscience and Professor Scrivener will show that it's an exciting time to study cement and concrete, as the study of material behaviour at the ‘nanoscale' will enable the industry to develop new materials and help reduce the environmental impacts of cement and concrete production. Topics such as sustainability, reducing CO2 emissions during manufacture, construction and in service, as well as recycling and the greater use of waste materials, are covered.

Richard England, CEO of The Concrete Society, said, "This lecture series aims to show that not only is concrete the material of choice for the 21st Century but also how, with the use of new technologies like nanoscience, it can be further improved to meet the challenges of the modern world - but can we as an industry take up this challenge?"

This fascinating lecture tour is appropriately being held at university venues and while being a free event entry is by ticket only as spaces are limited. Dates and venues are:

Wednesday 9 June University of Derby Derby
Thursday 10 June Cardiff University Cardiff
