Y-Carbon, Inc. announced that it has been awarded a Department of Energy (DOE) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) phase I grant. The grant comes as part of over $18 million in recently announced funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to support small business innovation research, development, and deployment of clean energy technologies. In this first phase of funding, Montgomery County based Y-Carbon was awarded $149,938 to continue its work developing nanotechnology for breakthrough performance in fields of energy.
"We are excited to have received this grant and support from the DOE. This will help us create sustainable jobs in the region as well as assist us with commercializing our technology, and assisting our clients," says James Horan, CEO of Y-Carbon, Inc.
Dr. Ranjan Dash, CTO of Y-Carbon, Inc., says that with the support from the SBIR Program, Y-Carbon, Inc. will continue the performance enhancement of its carbon material to be used in energy applications such as supercapacitors, natural and carbon dioxide gas storage.
"We are honored to have received this award. It has allowed us in a very short time to increase our staff from 5 employees to 8 employees," added Dr. Dash.
