We need UNH to be in our future
Abstract:
We accept the premise that creating an environment that encourages startup companies and spurs growth in high-tech jobs is the surest way to emerge from this exhausting recession and strengthen our region's long-term economic health.
"If we're not able to grow our high-tech base, we're not going to have a vibrant economy," Ross Gittell, vice president and forecast manager for the New England Economic Partnership, told members of the Exeter Area Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday. "We need to think about how to become more attractive to entrepreneurs and startup companies."
In our view, the University of New Hampshire has proven itself the institution most likely to spur the innovation we need to maintain a strong economy.
UNH is also a leader in nanotechnology and recently worked with NASA to "catch the interstellar wind" and to track via satellite how changes in North American forests might be affecting the climate.
