Gladys Muhammad talks about her vision of South Bend in 2020
Abstract:
What do you think is the key to creating more jobs?
We have to make a plan ... to get more jobs, and to look at what are some of the jobs that are going to be out there in 2010, such as (jobs concerning) the environment, and look at recycling. (Those) jobs should be available for some of the younger people — they may be technology and they may be things that people can do if they don't have a college degree. We have to look at that population of people.
Also, health care. Hopefully everybody will have health care by 2020. (We will need) home aides — people that go to the homes and help take care of senior citizens, and more training for those kinds of fields. That would help with jobs.
Nanotechnology — Ignition Park — means that the kids have to be ready, not just bring people in from out of the city to do those jobs. We need to make our population here in the city ready to take over some of those jobs.
