Ivy Tech/ND working together to train technicians
Abstract:
Ivy Tech Community College is planning to start a nanotechnology program as early as the fall to train technicians for jobs that could come as a result of the University of Notre Dame's MIND initiative.
MIND, the Midwest Institute for Nanoelectronics Discovery, is expected to lead to breakthrough discoveries in the field that could be developed at Innovation Park and commercialized at Ignition Park in South Bend.
"If we're going to have cottage industries pop up here in nanotech, they're going to need technicians," says Jim Powell, Ivy Tech's dean of liberal arts and sciences. "A student would be able to find an entry-level position in a company or a laboratory as a technician or assistant."
