Johnson Matthey Gas Purification Technology (GPT) group, a global leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of highly reliable bulk and point-of-use purifiers, has delivered a PureGuard™ regenerable catalytic nitrogen PSCN-50 purifier capable of flowing 50 Nm3/hr. to Cornell University NanoScale Science and Technology Facility (CNF), Ithaca, N.Y.

CNF (www.cnf.cornell.edu) is a national user facility established in 1977 that supports a broad range of nanoscale science and technology projects by providing state-of-the-art resources coupled with expert staff support. It encompasses physical sciences, engineering and life sciences and has a strong inter-disciplinary emphasis.

Paul Pelletier, CNF Equipment Specialist, said the newest purifier from Johnson Matthey will be used by the entire facility and would make another great tool available to researchers. "We are open 24/7 and provide the interactive and exciting learning and practicing environment critical to successful cutting-edge research".

Stuart Bestrom, Sales Manager for JM's GPT group, said this order is significant since the Cornell facility is a vital research option. "Our PureGuard PSCN Series Purifiers provide ultra-high-purity gas in a durable, low-cost package. Designed for bulk nitrogen, argon and oxygen flow rates from 10 Nm3/hr to 60 Nm3/hr, they provide continuous high-purity gas using a dual-bed system, one of which is online at all times, while the other regenerates itself".

He said PSCN purifiers also benefit researchers by purifying at ambient temperature to reduce power consumption, continue to purify to < 1 ppb even during power failures, are very user-friendly and are supported by a global service support network.

Small regenerable bulk gas purifiers are an excellent option for higher flow rates beyond the capabilities of our PureGuard™ IX-XL Series in-line gas purifiers often used for point-of-use applications. These purifiers allow us to offer a complete line of purifiers for bulk gases used at LED, Optoelectronics and photovoltaic wafer fabrication facilities. The PSH Series palladium purifiers for hydrogen and PSCG Series getter for argon and helium complete the product range for bulk gases.

Of the more than 700 annual users of the CNF, half are from outside of Cornell. They use the fabrication, synthesis, computation and integration resources of the CNF to build structures, devices and systems from atomic to complex length-scales. Remote research is also available to CNF clients.
