Abstract:
UNCG's growing number of connections with N.C. A&T State University has prompted Chancellors Linda P. Brady and Harold L. Martin Sr. to seek the first-ever joint meeting between the two schools' Boards of Trustees.
The session is set for 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, and will also include the Board of Directors of the Gateway University Research Park - a joint project between the two high-research universities. The trustees will hear a presentation on Gateway and all will attend a reception afterward at Gateway's South Campus on E. Lee Street.
The Triad's two leading public universities, Brady said, should have a closer working relationship, and this meeting could help.
The two schools are partnering in many efforts. In addition to Gateway, there is the Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering. The school's Nov. 9 groundbreaking drew more than 300 civic and educational leaders. The institutions have operated a joint Master's in Social Work degree program for some years, and are seeking authorization to plan a Ph.D. degree in the discipline. There are also plans for a Joint Primary Data Center, which will provide computer services for both universities and Gateway's South Campus.
